RBI decided to extend payment infrastructure scheme – The RBI decided to extend its Payment Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF) program until December 31, 2025 and made it even more inclusive. Now, businesses covered by the PM Vishwakarma Scheme in different areas can benefit. They’ve also made it easier for merchants to claim subsidies, including those using sound box devices and Aadhaar-enabled biometric devices.
This initiative, which started in January 2021 and was supposed to last for three years, aims to boost digital payment systems in smaller towns (tier-3 to tier-6 centers), the northeastern states, and the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. As of November 30, 2023, the PIDF fund has reached a substantial Rs 1,026 crore.
