The Income Tax Department has issued a new clarification regarding the linking of Aadhaar with PAN
According to the clarification, individuals can file their ITR even if their PAN is inoperative due to non-linking with Aadhaar.
However, the ITR will only be processed after the PAN is linked with Aadhaar.
The deadline for linking Aadhaar with PAN has been extended to September 30, 2021.
NRIs and OCIs who do not have an Aadhaar card are exempt from linking their PAN with Aadhaar.
However, they must provide their passport number while filing their ITR.
NRIs and OCIs who have an Aadhaar card must link it with their PAN.
If an NRI or OCI does not have a PAN, they can apply for one online.
The Income Tax Department has also clarified that NRIs and OCIs who have a taxable income in India must file their ITR.
Failure to file ITR can result in penalties and legal action.
